With the holidays behind us, and many children starting back to school after winter break, it is now the task of many parents to get their kids back on track. Being able to switch seamlessly from being on break to being at school is something that not all kids can do. Having a few tips and tricks up your sleeve can help make the process easier for everyone involved.
Get Enough Sleep
This is one of the most important things you can do for your child. Children are likely working on an altered sleep schedule which means that they are likely not getting enough sleep. Make sure that you put up electronics and allow your child enough time to sleep. If you can, limit screen time late at night and try to keep to the sleep schedule as closely as possible.
Keep to Your Food Schedule
If you normally eat breakfast before school during the year, make sure you are doing so during the break. This is going to help keep the kids on the right schedule and is also going to help keep your child eating well during the break. Another thing to keep in mind is to keep structure to your meals so that your kids stay on a basic schedule that they will use when they go back to school.
Organization Is Key
This is a must not only to stay on top of things during a break but to also make sure that you are prepared when school comes back around. Try doing things like figuring out what school supplies your child might need, getting new clothes if they need them, and making sure that everything for school is ready to go when break is over.
Check in and Go Over Basics
You should be in touch with your child’s teacher about any work that they need to complete before they go back to school, and you should also be taking the time to figure out what needs to get done at home before school starts back. Taking a few minutes to check in and go over the basics, before the last day of break, can help you mentally and physically prepare for the start of school.
Break is great; it gives us all a chance to be with family and to really relax. It also gives us a chance to get in touch with one another and start over fresh with the new year. Taking the time to try to stay on track and keep to a schedule of sorts during a break is a great way to be sure you are going to be able to step back into the roles you once had when school starts back up.
