How To Properly Keep Your Children Healthy This Spring

During the spring season, kids are often exposed to more viruses and illnesses than usual. That’s why it’s important to do everything you can to keep your child healthy this spring. One of the most effective ways to reduce infections is to teach your children good hand hygiene habits. Teach them to wash their hands before eating, after using the bathroom and following outdoor activities or classroom games where they’ve got their hands dirty. 

Get Plenty Of Sleep

Getting enough sleep is crucial for your children’s mental and physical health. It helps their body recharge, improves their energy levels, and boosts their immune system. It’s also important to ensure that they have a consistent bedtime and wakeup time each day, even on weekends. Make sure they avoid eating or drinking two hours before going to sleep, turn off all electronic devices an hour before bedtime, and keep their bedroom cool and dark. A well rested body is a healthy body.

Eat Healthy

Spring is a wonderful time to introduce kids to more healthy foods. Eating seasonal fruits and vegetables is a great way to expose your child to a wide variety of flavors and textures and build eating habits that will last a lifetime! Children’s bodies are susceptible to the ill effects of a diet high in sugar and saturated fats. The key is to balance these with a well-rounded whole-foods diet that includes plenty of fresh fruit and veggies, lean protein, and healthy fats. 

Stay Hydrated

Staying hydrated is essential to maintaining a healthy body. Although hydration is important throughout the year, it’s particularly important during spring and summer when your child may be playing more sports or outdoors. Staying hydrated can help prevent dehydration and other health problems such as diarrhea, headaches, muscle cramps, and heat exhaustion. Your children should aim to drink eight cups of fluids every day, or at least 64 ounces. You can also improve your children’s hydration status by eating foods that are high in water. For example, cucumbers, strawberries, tomatoes, and lettuce all contain a lot of water. 

Stay Away From Germs

It’s important to stay away from germs as much as possible to keep your child healthy this spring season. The best way to stop germs is by washing your hands regularly with soap and water. Use a sanitizer to help kill the lingering germs on your hands. When your children cough or sneeze, ask them to cover their mouth with a tissue so that they don’t pass germs on to others. Teach your children to wash their hands after using the toilet, before and after eating and preparing foods, and after touching an animal or sick person. Also, teach your child not to share pacifiers, drinking cups, eating utensils or towels.  

Plan A Visit To The Doctor

While spring is a great time to spend with your children, it is important to keep them healthy and well. A good way to do this is by scheduling annual physicals with their doctor. Having annual physicals will ensure that your child is hitting their growth marks and is on track for a healthy life. A regular checkup will also help their doctor detect any illnesses and injuries that have gone undetected for a long period of time. Another benefit of seeing your doctor is that they will be able to determine if your child has allergies. They will also be able to advise you on how you can better manage your child’s allergies.
